Taming of the shrew

I have been so busy. I just put up the taming of the shrew from the RTVF 134 class. It is the final for that class from this semester. I like it. Realize that without the work of the 130 class and the 231 class this would not have been possible. It is set in a modern time frame in a "Casino Royale" setting. It looks very gangsterish, but without the guns. Check it out, tell me what you think.

Great Y Circus of Redlands

Hey everybody! I have had a fantastic event recently. I wanted to update everyone on what I have been doing. Saturday night my crew and I shot the most difficult shoot I have ever shot. "The Great Y Circus". We ran 5 cameras in full HD through my HD switcher.

This production is for the parents of the children. It is different then shooting for TV of film. The number #1 concern is that every child must be seen as much as possible. So all of our shots were very wide. No real tight shots of any 1 child. For me as a director I am looking for the best shot which with TV is a real good close up, but not for this.

Words of Wisdom: Television is all about connecting the audience to the actors on the screen. The Audience wants to see the emotion. they want to be attached, they want to see into the eyes of the actors and know what they see is real - Even though they know it is only acting.

Here are some short clips of the show: I hope you like them.

Web Site

Wow! I have been working on this for several weeks now and have finally gotten it to a point I am proud of. My web site. Yeah! I had fun putting it together because it helped me to grow and change. I have had to think about what I wanted to say and do to make it user friendly as well as eye pleasing enough to encourage clients to want to see my work. Thanks every body for your support.

check out my site. http://kamedits.webs.com

I like webs.com because they are number one free, user friendly, and they look great.

Part 2

Several years went by after my initial video experience. I got married, had several kids, finished college with a bachelors in "Pacific Island Studies" from BYU-Hawaii. Woo Whoo! I discovered that path takes you in a couple of basic directions- 1) teaching, being in school all day was not in my plan. 2) research, yeah, like I wanted to watch stuff and write papers. None of this was for me. So I decided to try something else.

I went to my uncles Bob's in Idaho and worked in his businesses for a few months. He had several businesses going on simultaneously. One was a gold processing company. It was great, I helped organize the processing plant and was able to pull rich minerals from the ore we started with. The other business was a trust system for wealth and retirement. Through it I met many great people and I believe I helped many. The only problem with working for my uncle was I wasn't getting paid. I don't even know if he was getting paid. All I knew was I was providing for my family and my uncles too. It was tough to see so much potential and not be able to capitalize on it.

After some discussion I decided it was time to move on. I had an opportunity to work In Georgia with another uncle and aunt. My uncle was in the building industry and my aunt promised me work if I came out. So I packed up the family and left. It is sufficient to say that life in Georgia was short lived. With Renee 8 months pregnant we returned to Southern California to rest and recoup.

It was here that I fell in love with TV/ Video production. It was the year 2000. How did I get started? You will see in the next post.

Starting the journey

In the beginning.......

Wow, how did it all start? I'm not sure, but I will piece it together as best I can. I started in video when I was about 21. That was back in 1991. It was with my father. I didn't understand the passion at the time, but I have a better understanding now. I was not very impressed in those early ages. VHS video recorders were still new and TV production never entered my brain.

My father had a 2 and 1/2 camera set up. (Now ask yourself... how cam you have a 2 1/2 camera set up? Well one of the cameras had a video mixer built right into it, and we had a small wide shot camera to attach to it. We did wipes and fades on the fly on one camera.) The second camera was standard VHS. He would shoot and go home and edit on 2 VHS machines. How archaic! But that is what we did.

Well to get to the point, being unimpressed I went about life and never thought about it again. So how did I get into video and television production? That is all about the wife.

I am getting tired. I better head off to bed so I can be ready to edit a TV show tomorrow.
